Lightning strikes our front yard THREE TIMES!! The summer of 2000 has been a wet and cool summer for Virginia. During August, each day would end with a fierce electrical storm. Here are pictures taken from a video of our front yard during the August 7th storm where lightning started from our front yard THREE TIMES within a 2 minute period. Since the lightning started from the ground, there wasn't any damage.
Two Minutes Later
Frame 231 above is what I saw through the view finder. The other two strikes were only discovered by going frame by frame through the video. Scary. A bit of trivia: Did you know that the speed of sound is approximately 1/5 mile per second? It is actually 331.45m/sec at 0 degrees C. So when you see lightning and then hear the thunder, you can approximate how close the lightning was. The same holds true for fireworks.
