This was the first game of all innings pitched by the players. Last
week was a transition of half coach pitch and half kid pitch. The
kids throw twice as fast as the coaches and many of the pitches are beyond
the reach of the catcher. According to the league rules, this allows
the players to steal more bases. It's harder on the pitchers and
catchers that are still struggling. Coach Stacey lets Ryan know
to watch out for the third base runner that will try to steal home. Ryan,
number 5, has a bruise where the ball hit him in the left check. Luckily,
the ball hit part of the helmet too, but he went down hard. I guess
it's natural for him to smile when the camera is pointed his direction,
but he wasn't always smiling. He learned the hard way what it means
to "take one for the team." The bases were loaded and
his walk scored a run. In the end, the game was tied. The
RedWings are 4-1-2 for the season.

Ryan shows the boat he made for Cub Scouts. He
has more of a black eye the day after he was hit with the baseball
in the game above. I think the ice pack made a big difference. |

I was just playing with the camera. |

Jeff is fortunate to work close enough to home that
he can come home for lunch and let Shadow out of her crate for a
potty break and some play time. Watch
the video (5.2MB, 1:09)
of her playing fetch with her stuffed chew toy. |
Ryan is afraid of the ball since he was hit last week. Even when
his friend, Tim I. is pitching, he is still several feet too far from
the plate and steps back after the ball is thrown (left). As the
game progressed, he kept getting further and further from the plate (right).

Ryan and Tim congratulate each other on a good game. The
Raptors won. |
Ryan is overcoming his fear of being hit by the ball. Earlier
in the week, he hit the ball, got on base, and earned the game ball. See
the small photo album of
about a dozen photos. Can you tell what our lives have evolved
around this month?
It took a day to recover from Betsi's 40th birthday party. The
theme was Saturday Night Live and guests were encouraged to dress as
one of the characters. Jeff was Dieter, the German talk show host
of Sprockets, while Betsi was the not so prim and proper Jenny Baker,
a guest of the Church Lady. The 60 guests enjoyed themselves (5
escaped being photographed) and a core group stayed until 2:00am. Baby
sitters watched the kids at a neighbor's house until midnight and the
kids played outside until 1:30am. We were glad Ryan's math teacher
wasn't moving next door for a few more weeks. See more
photos. The photos of Dieter and Jenny Baker are compliments
of The SNL Archives.

Jeff put a collection of photos covering Betsi's life
in a digital photo frame. A new photo appeared every couple
of seconds. See the collection with some dates and comments here. |
