Betsi's cousin, Jonathan, and his wife, Sharon, were in town for a few
days and spent the weekend with us. Despite the below freezing
temperatures, we braved the elements and visited Mt. Vernon, the home
of George Washington. There had been a lot of restoration since
the last time we had seen it. We later had a late, late lunch at
the Fish Market in Old Town Alexandria.

On Sunday, we visited the National Air and Space Museum
Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center. More planes were added since our
Nov 2004 visit. See more

On February 7, the kids enjoyed a day off from school after a few
inches fell overnight. This was before they woke up. |
It's amazing what 4 to 6 inches of sleet will do. School closed
two hours early on Tuesday, February 13 and was closed for the rest of
the week. While the main roads were clear, the neighborhoods were a solid
sheet of packed sleet. Only ten percent of the people made it into
work on Wednesday at Jeff's office. That evening, we decided to
host an impromptu get together at our house for Valentine's
Day since no one was going out anyway. Many people commented how
they couldn't make any more footprints because the sleet was now a solid sheet
of ice. Even cars couldn't break it. The
next few evenings, the kids discovered the smallest of hills were fairly
easy to climb, but gave them enough momentum to go from house to house. On
Saturday when these photos and video were taken, it was the fourth straight
day of below freezing temperatures, but the sun was melting the ice just
enough to notice the sleds weren't as fast. On a side note, this storm dumped another
foot or two on top of the 8 feet of snow up state New York already had.

Jeff's parents were able to attend the annual Cub Scout Blue and Gold
Banquet. This year's theme was Hawaiian which contrasted with the snow
outside. This was the first time Ryan's den presented the flags before
the banquet began.
