The closest airport to Siloth, England was Manchester,
2.5 hours to the south. Ainsley found the first leg of the plane
ride a great opportunity to take a nap, just as Ryan had done on his first
plane ride several years ago. Ryan thought the emergency instructions
in the front seat pocket was interesting and had to show it to Jeff.
Jeff had to be creative on explaining what the pictures
meant as not to scare Ryan. There was a picture of water outside
the emergency door with a red line through it for crash landings in water.
Jeff explained that we shouldn't go outside in the rain.
On the transatlantic portion of the trip
on an Airbus
A330 (very close to a Boeing 777), we each had our own
TVs. Talk about being spoiled in coach class. We could
watch 2 hours of TV on 7 different "stations." There
were 7 or 8 movies we could watch that were no longer in theaters,
but not released on DVD yet. There was also a large selection
of music videos. We could pause, rewind, fast forward, etc.
as potty breaks and meals interrupted us from time to time.
The seat configuration was 2-4-2 across, so Ryan and I had the window
and Betsi and Ainsley sat in the middle section. It was hard
not to stay up all night watching movies.
