Get it if you can. PC Magazine's article Real World Testing: The Best ISPs in America (May 2007) and PC World's article The Best and Worst ISPs (June 2007) said a fiber optic cable is the fastest way to connect to the internet.
PC Magazine has two articles with photos of the installation of a router and battery backup in your house or apartment to get the Verizon FiOS service. It's a lot of work and a lot of equipment, but both authors are thrilled with the results. Make sure to ask the technicians the password to log into the router before they leave.
